Week 2: CLOTHING

This was the week I was dreading the most.  The thought of only being able to wear a limited amount of items for an entire week terrified me.   I choose to wear only the following things for a week:

2 T-shirts
1 pair of jeans
1 pair of capris
1 pair sandals
1 pair boots
1 sweater
1 sweatshirt
I only wore foundation and mascara.

These are the only items I wore all week!

My only exception was pajamas didn't count and if I had to attend a funeral I could wear something else.

For those of you that know we well, I don't normally leave the house without earrings or a necklace/scarf.  I also don't ever wear the same pair of shoes two days in  a row.  I was convinced this would be a form of torture.

The first thing Jen had us do this week was count the items of clothing we had.   She had us guess what she thought we had before we counted.  I guessed I had 150 items of clothing.  I was shocked when the number was closer to 400.   I can justify part of that number by saying I live in a state that has 4 seasons.  But really I just love clothes!   This wasn't something new that I learned about myself.   I will be paring down my wardrobe next week while we talk about possessions.

Wearing basically the same thing was so much easier than I expected.  It took the stress out of getting dressed.  I just threw on my  jeans and t-shirt and left.  It did however make me extremely self conscience.   I learned that my self confidence is very much wrapped up in my appearance.   I felt naked with out earrings in.  I saw a few people on multiple days that I was wearing the same thing.  No one seemed to notice, if they did they didn't say anything.

What I'm taking away from this week:

1.  I'll survive without lots of clothing choices.
2.  There is no need to keep things that I may wear "someday" that another person could be wearing right now.
3.   Having is few nice things that I love is better than having tons of things that I just kinda like.

  1. Remember the time you lived in Mexico and had to wear the same thing over and over?
