Good Bye 2014 - Hello 2015

As I was setting my goals for 2015 I looked back at my goals from the previous year.  This is the first time I can say I was not discouraged.  I didn't come close to some of my goals for the year but my attitude is positive.  I can look at the list and see all the amazing things I did accomplish.    I can also see a few trends from years past in regards to my strengths and weakness.

I started out the year following Money Saving Mom 12 months to a healthier you.   Like most moms,  I take care of everyone else before myself.  2014 was the year to change that.  Here are a few things that I conquered:

1.  I gave up soda.  For some this is no big deal but for me this was giving up a 10 year addiction.   I don't crave it any more.  I have also learned I can have one as treat and not fall back into the every day habit.

2.  I LOVE getting up early.  Had you told me I would be saying that when my kids were babies I would have laughed at you.  I have taken a break and slept in over Christmas break.  I can't wait to get back to my routine and be up before everyone else around here.

3.  I learned to say no.  As a people pleaser I have a hard time not saying yes to everything I am asked to do.  I have been slowly working on this for years.  I have gotten much better about saying no but the guilt of letting people down was still hanging around.  I now look at saying no as saying yes to more important things.  It has completely changed my attitude about upsetting people.  It is about doing what is best for my family, not what is best for everyone else.

4.  I read 54 books!  I learned this year how much I love fiction.  For the last few years I saw fiction as a waste of my time; if I was going to read something I needed to learn something.  Boy - how I was wrong.  It is so enjoyable to get lost in another world.  There are also some things to be learned in fiction.

As I planned for 2015 I noticed I am really good at meeting my goals for reading, organizing, and trying new recipes.  I'm not so good at planning date nights, having people over for dinner, or finishing craft projects.

I still write everything out on paper and keep it in a binder.

Here are my goals for 2015:

Personal:
Read 60 books
Finish 6 craft projects
Run a 5K
Try a new recipe each month
Do 2 things that scare me

Marriage:
Date night once a month
Read 6 books together
Take an anniversary trip without our children

Family/Parenting:
Have one family over each month for dinner
Have a date night with each child at least once this year
Read aloud or listen to 12 books together
Family game night twice a month
Take a family vacation

As we start 2015 have you set any New Years Resolutions?  Do you have goals you would like to achieve throughout the year?  If you're like me and need the accountability feel free to share with me.  I would love to help you meet your goals.

  1. Great job! Plus, commiserating, she said on this year's goals she bombed on most of hers. ;-)
I really like that goal format- you've inspired me to do one also. Thank you!

  2. Ahhh! This year is so unsettled for me with so many more unknown than usual, we haven't set any goals even our family fun ones. Thanks for the encouragement...I may need some more. :)

54 books?! I need to go back and see how many I read, I don't think it was near that many! How do you keep track?

    1. I think your only goal this year should be bringing two girls home! That is enough of a to do list:) I keep a board on pinterest and every time I finish a book I post it to the board.

  3. You go girl :) Proud of you for all you've accomplished! In 2014 Josh and I went on a date every single month and we both agreed that we need to continue! We take turns planning the date. One of my goals this year is to follow through on my good intentions! I have these great intentions in my head, but my follow through is spotty at best! That goal is kind of broad though, so I probably need to get a little more specific so that I can actually figure out if I accomplished it or not :)
