What I'm reading in 2020

I set the goal of reading 70 books in 2019.  It was the highest goal I had ever set.  I love being pushed in my reading life.  This past  year it just didn't work.  By October that number was still a far way off.  It made me stop reading for enjoyment and reading to hit the goal.  I didn't read very many great books last year.  If you want to see what my top 5 were you can read this post:  Top 5 - 2019

Since reading is the #1 thing I do for me,  something had to change this year.  I decided to shrink my goal.   Rather than push myself to read more, I'm challenging myself to read for enjoyment.  I love being able to track my reading on goodreads - you can follow along with me HERE   This year my goodreads challenge goal is 24 books.  It's a goal I can easily hit and not panic about hitting a large goal.  It will be fun to see how many I do read when I'm not pushing myself.

The kids have set the goal of reading 400 books this year.  Last year our goal was 500 and we almost made it.  We read 436.  Last year we read through the Caledcott award winners.  We still haven't finished up the entire list.   I'm hoping to finish up the last few winners this month. I'll write a post later to let you know what are favorites were.  This year will be reading a Newbery Honor Winner a month.  Do you have a favorite?   I would love to know what it is.

I still plan to use Modern Mrs. Darcy's reading challenge for inspiration.  Here is the link if you would like to do the challenge.

I'm going to use the book for inspiration not another list to check off.   If you want to see how I did on last years list here it is: MMD 2019 Book List

What reading goals have you set for the year?

  1. I highly recommend The One & Only Ivan and Flora & Ulysses. My 10 yr old and I read them last Spring and we both loved them. And most recently we read Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper and Wonder. Both are about kindness and understanding those who might be different. These books are more than just good stories. They lend themselves to serious conversations about values and human condition; but still approachable to children of all ages. Plus, they make great audiobooks for listening to and discussing while in the car.

    1. We have read Wonder and The One & Only Ivan. I'll have to look into the others you mentioned. Thanks!
