I spend a large part of day in the kitchen. I normally cook 3 meal a day, plus the kids have a snack every afternoon. I've really struggled the last few years with lunches. I prefer to freezer cook during the school year for our evening meals. Once soccer starts at our house evenings get pretty crazy.
One of the many things I love about my homeschooling group is that we can share what is working at our houses. All of the things I am implementing this year I've stole from friends!
The biggest change is the kids will be responsible for fixing lunch 4 days a week. Asher will still need some assistant. I think this will be a huge time saver! They picked two meals they want to cook and we will rotate our menu every other week. This will be great on days that I am working with one of the kids. I won't have to stop to fix lunch.
Here is our schedule for lunch:
Monday - Mom: Sandwiches & Salad
Tuesday- Josiah: Hotdogs with Macaroni/Cheese & Wraps
Wednesday - Eliana: Grilled Cheese & Pork Burgers
Thursday - Jeremiah: Chicken Nuggets & Frozen Pizza
Friday - Asher: PBJ & Homemade Lunchables
For breakfast and dinner we will be eating the same type of thing each week. I'm hoping it helps with meal planning. I have enough variations of different types of food that we won't be eating the exact same thing each week. Here are the list of main dishes for both meals.
Breakfast:
Monday: Freezer Meal - breakfast taquitos, burritos, egg mcmuffins
Tuesday: Bread Based - pancakes, waffles, French toast
Wednesday- Sausage or Bacon
Thursday - Eggs
Friday - Muffins
Saturday - Cereal
Sunday - Donuts
Dinner:
Monday: Meatless Meal
Tuesday: Tacos
Wednesday: Soup/Crockpot
Thursday: Rice & Beans
Friday: Pizza
Saturday: Grill or Casserole
How do you save time in the kitchen? Do you have any tricks you want to share? I'm always looking for ways to improve what we are already doing. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how our new plan is going.
