Obedience

For months I have been arguing with God over something small and silly.  God has been prompting my heart to talk to someone about homeschooling.  I know-silly isn't it - I talk to people about homeschooling all the time.  But here is the deal: she has never asked me anything about it,  her daughter is 3, she was a public school teacher before becoming a mom and is from a family of public school teachers.  Yes - those are all of the excuses I gave God!  Plus, this one - I do not believe every family should homeschool. I think it is a family choice and every family is different.   I do not go around preaching that it is the only way to educate your child - I don't ever want to be perceived as "that person."  Luckily God doesn't give up.  Every time she posted on facebook, every pin she posted on pinterest - God said, "reach out to her". As we were heading out the door this morning, as always I was trying to do to many things. While the kids loaded up in the van  I was hanging out clothes on the clothes line. God says again, "Just send her an email".  And this was my response, "FINE, I'LL SEND HER AN EMAIL WHEN I GET HOME!"  (yes, I yell at God - that's a post for a different time)

The boys and I were hanging out at the library while Eliana was at Girl Scouts today.  Guess who just happened to show up while we were there?  Yup - God wasn't waiting on email.   As we caught up on our lives and chatted a bit, my heart was racing and my hands were sweating.  Then I said it, "This is going to sound crazy, but God has been asking me to tell you about homeschooling,.  Have you ever thought about it?"    As tears welled up in her eyes - she said yes.  She then went on to explain how her family business keeps them traveling for months at a time.  If she puts her daughter in traditional school there would be months that their family would be separated and that was not what they wanted.  They had looked into homeschooling but she just wasn't sure she could do it.

If I had listened to God the first time I could have be the encouraging words she needed months ago!  So what did I learn today?   Being obedient may not always be easy and it may not always be about me!

What crazy things has God asked you to do lately?  Were you obedient or a little slow like me?

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.  Luke 16:10  NIV
